From Dairy Factory to modern home

Vallø Mejeri, is a former dairy factory that stood in disuse from 1989 until MAKWäRK discovered it in 2019. Yes, this is where the founders of MAKWäRK, Britt and Mikkel, live!

Located in Køge, Denmark, the rustic redbrick building from 1949, offers tall windows, even taller ceilings and lots of interesting architectural features. During renovations, the team were careful to conserve the industrial details, such as the original white wall tiles and the holes in the ceiling once used for milk silos, creating a unique home. The space is designed to be inviting to both the couple’s dogs, friends and family, and is an eclectic mix of the rustic, crooked and decadent.

Vallø Mejeri has been featured in Bo Bedre and have also had the pleasure to form backdrop for a few photoshoots too. Feel free to check out Vallø Mejeri instagram page or read Bo Bedre’s article by clicking the link below.

A place to relax, chat and enjoy both the fireplace and heigh ceiling. The floor is made of polished concrete that pays homage to the buildings history. The chandelier is a DIY, based on Hübsch lampshades. Photo by: Helene Hoyer Mikkelsen.

The living area is designed in an open plan, complete with a lounge, a kitchen and a long dinner table that house enough space for plenty of dinner guests. Important detail on the sofa: The dogs feel at home here too. Photo by: Helene Hoyer Mikkelsen.

The ceilings are fitted with Troldtekt to match the buildings industrial feel. The entrance is seen in the back between the kitchen and wine storage, whereas the floor above the kitchen, is used as an office space for MAKWäRK. Photo by: Helene Hoyer Mikkelsen.
